Bangsamoro Literary Review<\/em> (BLR)<\/strong> is an initiative of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Deputy Minority Floor Leader MP Atty. Rasol Mitmug, Jr.<\/a><\/p>\n BLR<\/em> pays a token fee for accepted works (short stories, poems, essays, comics, illustrations, literary translations, and hybrid narratives) written by people who have ties to the region. Works can be in any of the languages used in BARMM territories\u2014Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi\u2014as well as in Filipino and English.<\/p>\n Send your works for consideration to mail@bangsamororeview.com<\/strong><\/a>. Gutierrez Mangansakan II<\/strong>, born in 1976, descended from the royal houses of Maguindanao. Eschewing familial obligations in politics, he chose the subversive pathway and became an artist, which is, to his people’s minds, just a pretty euphemism for being a bum.\u00a0 He is better known as a film director whose credits include Limbunan<\/em> (The Bridal Quarter), Cartas de la Soledad <\/em>(Letters of Solitude), Qiyamah<\/em>, Forbidden Memory<\/em>, and The<\/em> Obscured Histories and Silent Longings of Daguluan’s Children<\/em>. An outsider in Philippine literary circles or ‘a filmmaker who just happens to write’, he takes pride in the deconstruction of the asterisk as his way of rebelling against the formality of political and artistic establishments. He was a writer-in-residence of the University of Iowa’s International Writing Program in 2008, and a fellow of the 54th University of the Philippines National Writers Workshop in 2015. He is the author of Archipelago of Stars <\/em>(ADNU Press, 2016) and editor the anthologies of Moro writings Children of the Ever Changing Moon<\/em> (Anvil, 2007) and Rays of the Invisible Light <\/em>(Bidadali Press, 2016).<\/p>\n![\"Kristine](\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bangsamororeview.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Kristine-Muslim.jpg?resize=150%2C150&ssl=1\")
Kristine Ong Muslim<\/strong> (b. Sept. 1980) grew up and continues to live in a mountainous rural town in Upi, Maguindanao. She is the author of <\/span>The Drone Outside<\/em> (Eibonvale Press, 2017), <\/span>Black Arcadia<\/em> (University of the Philippines Press, 2017), <\/span>Meditations of a Beast<\/em> (Cornerstone Press, 2016), <\/span>Butterfly Dream<\/em> (Snuggly Books, 2016), <\/span>Age of Blight<\/em> (Unnamed Press, 2016), <\/span>Lifeboat<\/em> (University of Santo Tomas Publishing House, 2015), and and several other books of fiction and poetry. She is co-editor of three anthologies\u2014the British Fantasy Award-winning <\/span>People of Colo(u)r Destroy Science Fiction! <\/em>(2016), <\/span>Sigwa: Climate Fiction Anthology from the Philippines <\/em>(forthcoming from Polytechnic University of the Philippines Press), and <\/span>Ulir\u00e1t: Best Contemporary Stories in Translation from the Philippines<\/em> (Gaudy Boy, 2021)\u2014and translator of numerous bilingual volumes, including Marlon Hacla\u2019s <\/span>Melismas<\/em> (Oomph Press, 2020), as well as Mes\u00e1ndel Virtusio Arguelles\u2019s <\/span>Three Books<\/em> (Broken Sleep Books, 2020), <\/span>Twelve Clay Birds: Selected Poems<\/em> (University of the Philippines Press, 2021), and <\/span>Walang Halong Biro<\/em> (De La Salle University Publishing House, 2018). Widely anthologized, Muslim\u2019s short stories appeared in <\/span>Conjunctions<\/em>, <\/span>Dazed Digital<\/em>, <\/span>Literary Hub<\/em>, and <\/span>World Literature Today<\/em> and were translated into Bulgarian, French, Polish, and Serbian.<\/span><\/p>\n
