Ramadhan Greeting<\/strong><\/p>\n

This, from me to you,
\nTo family and neighbors too.
\nHere’s to a bounteous Ramadhan for you and me,
\nBoundless blessings be to the community!<\/p>\n

Our dear ones at the iftar table may we always gather,
\nAnd remember those who cannot make it, and the ones gone forever.<\/p>\n

May faith nourish our spiritual hunger,
\nRemembrance of the Almighty will feed us, one way or the other.
\nA prayer to aid the troubled and tormented,
\nA plea for wisdom for the misguided.<\/p>\n

May all be healed with kindness and generosity,
\nA better world for you and me.
\nGlad tidings of Ramadhan I bring to thee,
\nMay we thrive in its essence infinitely!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

“Ipita Ko so Ranon, Igabi so Tadman”<\/strong>
\n(Love for Breakfast, Reminiscences for Dinner)<\/p>\n

Love is best eaten at breakfast.
\nStraight from the pan, newly fried, comes joy.
\nSteam dissipates into the morning mist the heady fragrance of a mug of warmth.
\nA generous slice (or two) of savory emotions completes the spread.
\nThe daybreak plate is always full and satiating.
\nAlas! At dusk it is never.
\nNourishment left aside spoils sometime after.
\nMemories are all that’s left for dinner.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Rice Farmer<\/strong><\/p>\n

Barefoot,
\nHis cracked heels dig deep
\nInto the thick sludge.
\nSet to do what his forbears had done for ages:
\nLiving the travails of earthly toil.
\nSummoning them to bring forth
\nThe golden grains that feed an ungrateful multitude.<\/p>\n

The sticky mire oozes between his toes,
\nAs he bends, gently laying the fresh green shoots into the mushy slush.
\nAll this, while thoughts swirl through his head.
\nOf whether the weather will remain kind,
\nOf why the ravenous snails seem to just appear from nowhere,
\nOf why his life, like his muddy feet,
\nSeemed to sink deeper into the grime.
\nAnd whether the market will do him justice this time.<\/p>\n

At dusk, upright he stands,
\nHis back broken by labor and scorched by the sun.
\nHis hands and feet spent,
\nHe looks at his fields verdant with plantlet tips,
\nA worried prayer escapes his lips,
\nNo recourse but to leave it all to the One.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
