How unjust!<br \/>\nWhen I finally solicited bravery<br \/>\nThe fingers have gone tired, they trembled,<br \/>\nUnable to carry all the thunders I rolled<br \/>\nBeneath the corners of my flesh and bones<br \/>\nStill, I gathered these and held them tight<br \/>\nI took it on a ride to the depths of the night.<\/p>\n<p><em>dogs howling<br \/>\n<\/em><em>lamppost flickering<br \/>\n<\/em><em>air sweeping<br \/>\n<\/em><em>people<br \/>\n<\/em><em>dust<br \/>\n<\/em><em>and leaves<br \/>\n<\/em><em>on empty streets<br \/>\n<\/em><em>echoing<br \/>\n<\/em><em>mechanical<br \/>\n<\/em><em>squeak, whirr;<br \/>\n<\/em><em>a staccato.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I toss myself under the watchful skies<br \/>\nAbandoned and stripped my mind<br \/>\nBut the moon has fallen asleep<br \/>\nHow unfair it was! How unjust!<br \/>\nWhen I finally solicited bravery<br \/>\nIt has grown tired of people&#8217;s tears,<br \/>\nIt got bored of people&#8217;s whims,<br \/>\nSo I asked, instead, the stars<br \/>\nPleaded them to accept, to hide,<br \/>\nAll the sins, chunks, and scars \u2014<br \/>\nTo string constellations with tonight.<\/p>\n<p><em>trees slouching<br \/>\n<\/em><em>walls whispering<br \/>\n<\/em><em>air thickening<br \/>\n<\/em><em>melting dew<br \/>\n<\/em><em>light<br \/>\n<\/em><em>and soil<br \/>\n<\/em><em>on silent streets<br \/>\n<\/em><em>echoing<br \/>\n<\/em><em style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">mechanical<br \/>\n<\/em><em>thrum, whirr;<br \/>\n<\/em><em>a staccato.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Distant, diamond eyes pierce me<br \/>\nLike mirrors, doubting, suspicious<br \/>\nQuestioning the unshapely fragments<br \/>\nI dragged and hid in my shadows<br \/>\nSo I took the tail of a wandering star,<br \/>\nScraped down the worst parts,<br \/>\nAnd offered them up above<br \/>\nBut they don\u2019t weave constellations anymore<br \/>\nHow unfair it was. How unjust!<br \/>\nWhen I finally solicited bravery<br \/>\nThe stars have grown tired of waiting,<br \/>\nAnd I am left with my rubbles, begging.<\/p>\n<p>One star took pity,<br \/>\nAnd so it called and asked me:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What do you think makes me shine?<br \/>\nIs it air, space, or time?<br \/>\nIs it me who created this light?<br \/>\nOr is it the darkness where I lie?<br \/>\nWhat do you think makes me twinkle?<br \/>\nMy light that hesitated to travel?<br \/>\nThe black spaces that ate my sparkle?<br \/>\nOr your eyes, which failed to discover,<br \/>\nAll these fragments creating my flare?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>eyes drooping,<br \/>\n<\/em><em>earth snoring,<br \/>\n<\/em><em>air blowing,<br \/>\n<\/em><em>bursting colors<br \/>\n<\/em><em>shapes<br \/>\n<\/em><em>and skins<br \/>\n<\/em><em>on lonely streets<br \/>\n<\/em><em>echoing<br \/>\n<\/em><em>mechanical<br \/>\n<\/em><em>hum, whirr,<br \/>\n<\/em><em>slowing down,<br \/>\n<\/em><em>singular sound;<br \/>\n<\/em><em>a staccato.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mirra-Edora Esmael Once, I offered myself to the stars I scooped up scraps of me Ugly edges, opened cracks Faults, flaws, and ruins But they slip eagerly between the hands How unfair it was!
