Solaiman<\/p>\n<p><\/em><\/p>\n<p>A Tupperware container flew<br \/>\nSeveral time zones in one day.<br \/>\nEscaped many an airport baggage scanner,<br \/>\nTo my table made its way.<\/p>\n<p>Bestowed by visiting kin,<br \/>\nConjured by an aunt<br \/>\nAs soon as the sun was in.<br \/>\nWhat more could I, far from home, want?<\/p>\n<p>Misty eyes and emotions later,<br \/>\nBanana leaf parcels<br \/>\nUnder the raised cover.<br \/>\nLonged-for delights weave their spells.<\/p>\n<p>In my kitchen well-lit,<br \/>\nEmerald-colored<em> lipet <\/em>yield<br \/>\nTheir bounty of <em>kagikit<\/em>.<br \/>\nMounds of <em>kuning<\/em>, made with rice from Babu\u2019s field.<br \/>\n<em>Randang<\/em> concocted from the softest meat,<br \/>\n<em>Pyarun a bakas<\/em> and a dollop of <em>palapa<\/em> to make it complete.<\/p>\n<p>In seconds the fragrance of this largesse,<br \/>\nHad me dream of familiar shores, no less.<br \/>\nOf wood fires in simple homes and earthen floors,<br \/>\nAnd people going about their pastoral chores.<br \/>\nKith and kin, even those I don\u2019t fully know,<br \/>\nInviting you, \u201c<em>bugur tano<\/em>!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And then it finally hits me: I have been away for years.<br \/>\nWill all this precious food understand my tears?<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jahara A.
